As part of the 1% tide of giving, every nation, corporation, and foundation is expected each year to contribute to a Universal Project of collective global significance, selected according to transparent criteria for impact, need, and accountability. When Givingtide calls on nations, it means every arm and level of public life—central and regional governments; ministries, departments and parastatals; cities; public agencies and state owned enterprises. Each is invited to dedicate 1% of Gross National Income (GNI) or an equivalent share of the annual budget to uplift the world’s poorest 10%, whether those people live within their borders or beyond them. Every nation and governmental entity must adopt a formal duty to end poverty everywhere.
